Artist Statement
My work is endlessly inspired by and expresses a deep appreciation of the English countryside where I live; my snow scenes in particular depict plants and wildlife that I paint in soft and subtle color palettes, which evoke a feeling of calm and stillness that make my illustrations appear easy on the eye and suitable for many applications.
My preferred choice of medium is acrylic paint; more recently, however, I have learned to paint digitally, using such software programs as Procreate and Adobe Photoshop.
About the Artist
Sarah Summers began her freelance career in illustration when her Christmas window display was spotted by the art director of a greeting card company who happened to pass by the art supplies shop where she worked. She was delighted when he published two of her designs as greeting cards that same Christmas, and thrilled when he commissioned her to produce four designs for the following year. This interest in her art gave Sarah Summers the confidence to pursue a career in illustration — initially, she had trained to be a graphic designer — and since then, she has worked with many licensing partners, including Abbey Presse and Abacus Cards. In addition, she has produced an extensive portfolio of work, which has appeared on many products, ranging from fabric and Christmas ornaments to wall art, stationery, and jigsaw puzzles.
Sarah Summers currently resides in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, where she is surrounded by traditional apple orchards, sheep, and amazing views of the picturesque Cotswolds. Her studio is near the historic town of Berkeley, which nestles between the Cotswold Hills and the River Severn.
