Artist Statement

I love telling stories with paint, however my own story had an unusual beginning. For the first half of my career I worked in global brand marketing managing brands such as Betty Crocker, Cheerios, and Amazon.com. In this capacity I became fascinated with the power of Jungian archetypes, works by Joseph Campbell and iconography. So much so in fact, that I left it behind to develop my own ideas around these topics.

I begin painting… and painting… and painting some more. I studied for four years with a local painter creating master copies from the old classical paintings. I then attended the Painting and Drawing Atelier at Gage Academy of Art for three years to further refine my drafting skills and began composing my own narrative works.

My work is based in the figurative narrative tradition.  Simply described, my paintings are a mash up of classically styled figures and contemporary iconography My narratives are based on fairy tales, mythology, tarot and even biography. Branded products, familiar characters, and contemporary iconography support the narrative in my work.

I most recently exhibited at the Whatcom Museum in Bellingham, WA and The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. In 2012 I will be showing with Susan Eley Fine Arts in New York, NY and my paintings will be published in the International Painting Annual by Manifest Creative Research Gallery in Cincinnati, OH.
