Nuit Blanche
This visually appealing film short, “Nuit Blanche,” by director Arev Manoukian, plays off of several exquisite contrasts. What appears to be an old-fashioned black and white film, from the starting credits to the dress of the two main characters, and the setting itself, transforms right before our eyes into a hyper-real moment of emotional intensity. The other curious aspect of the short is how this discontinuity between old-fashioned and modern resolves itself. I won’t give away the ending, but let’s just say that the special effects reinforce the meaning of “Nuit Blanche.”
