ARTIST STATEMENT
Over the past five years, I’ve been creating stories with paper and paint. I like an odd image where I can reimagine a new life for my muse, sometimes whimsical and sometimes a bit dark. Through these collected images, I reinterpret what is familiar to me from my life growing up on the prairie of America, surrounded by strong women and their stories of hardships, happiness and ordinary lives.
I’m always looking for and collecting old publications, whether they are illustrated owner manuals, books, or magazines such as National Geographic. Estate sales are also exciting in their potential for old photographs and postcards.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Apart from collage and mixed media, Mish is also a photographer, a welder, a quilter, a builder of assemblage art, and odd-doll sculptures.
Stewart is an artist’s artist in that she is always reading about art and other artists over her morning coffee. Her art book collection is nothing short of impressive.
Stewart graduated with a BFA in painting from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. Her work has been exhibited in small galleries in the U.S. and the U.K.
Mish now resides in England.
